Call for applications for collaboration and development grants for intangible cultural heritage now open

The aim of the grant is to strengthen the implementation and visibility of the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage and to increase communities’ opportunities to participate in identifying, safeguarding and transmitting intangible cultural heritage. The Convention emphasises the central role of communities, the preservation and transmission of traditions, and the diversity of cultural heritage.

Since 2018, the Finnish Heritage Agency has supported intangible cultural heritage projects through state grants. Nearly seventy grants have been awarded in previous years to support, among other things, projects related to education and training in living heritage, culturally diverse projects, and Finland’s UNESCO elements of intangible cultural heritage.

Intangible cultural heritage refers to traditions and practices that are passed down from generation to generation. It can include, for example, festive traditions, craftsmanship, performing arts, storytelling, or skills and knowledge related to nature.

Eligible applicants include associations, municipalities, foundations and companies.

Applications may be submitted in Finnish, Swedish, or English.
